Umbra Expands U.S. Production Capacity with Move to New 50,000 Sq Ft Manufacturing Facility

The new site quadruples the company’s production capabilities – fueling American innovation, creating high-tech jobs and strengthening national security through vertically integrated, American-made space technology.

SANTA BARBARA, CA – June 25, 2025 – Umbra, a leading American space technology company, announced today the opening of its new 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Southern California, marking a major milestone in the company’s growth and commitment to U.S.-based innovation and defense readiness.

The new facility boosts Umbra’s annual satellite production capabilities – supporting new satellites with over four times the imaging throughput and enabling the manufacture of world-class apertures more than four times larger than previously possible. This expansion in capacity positions Umbra to deliver tailored radar solutions at speed and scale, from precision data products to full system deployments.

Umbra is a 100% American-owned and operated provider of high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, systems, and custom RF mission solutions. Trusted by government customers and proven in flight, the company’s private constellation delivers the most data at the lowest price—enabling actionable insights in any weather, day or night, with unmatched value.

“This new facility is a transformative step for Umbra,” said David Langan, Umbra’s Chief Executive Officer and co-founder. “Not only does it represent a significant investment in our U.S. manufacturing capabilities, but it also reflects our confidence in the technology, the team and the growing demand for timely, trusted and operational SAR capabilities.”

Umbra was built from the ground up to serve U.S. defense and intelligence needs. SAR technology is uniquely capable of imaging through clouds, at night, and even through materials – making it a foundational layer in the nation’s security capabilities.

“Umbra is proud to invest in the domestic SAR industrial base when it matters most,” Langan added. “We’re scaling with purpose – and with performance – and this facility will only further empower our customers with faster intel and the ability to make smarter decisions on the ground.”

Alongside the physical expansion, Umbra is growing its workforce across engineering, manufacturing, operations and data science. This scaling effort enhances the company’s ability to innovate rapidly – building satellites in months, not years – while maintaining the cost advantages, agility and high standards that have set Umbra apart from others in the industry.

“Our constellation is fully designed and built in-house—engineered from the ground up to outperform. It’s field-proven and trusted by national security users,” said Todd Master, Chief Operating Officer at Umbra. “We’re not just building satellites—we’re delivering the full suite of domestic SAR infrastructure to enable a new model of communications and intelligence on a global scale.”

In addition to Umbra’s new facility, Umbra is also doubling its office space in Arlington, Virginia to support research and development and deepen engagement with government programs.
